I’m not going to take on each one of these issues in my first post, but I will say that on each of these issues, I beg to differ from those who would use them as weapons against the post-Vatican II papacies, including the current papacy of Pope Francis.
I am starting this blog to put down in writing what I believe to be a systematic and honest description of how I believe both orthodox Catholicism and left politics can be integrated with intellectual and moral integrity.
Slavish commitment to magestrial teaching, but also a willingness to integrate contemporary historiography of the early church into my understanding of church history and the history of ecclesiology. Separation of contemporary Catholicism in the US from the partisan politics that have polluted nearly all of us. A critique of our cyborg overlords, integrating left criticisms of American political economy with ~Thomistic defense of nature and teleology. An honest dealing with the racialized infrastructure on which modern American cities are built, while struggling with the loss of young people to secularism and its impacts on parish and diocesan finance. A materialist critique of the culture war with a focus on following the money.
